What is a Grant?

Grants are non-repayable funds disbursed by a grant body known as the Grant Maker. Grant Makers can be Government Departments, Corporations, Foundations or Trusts who provide support for not-for-profit Entities to fund specific projects.

Grant Makers will support projects that meet their funding requirements and help them achieve their objectives.  When accepting grant funding the organisation is entering into an agreement with the Grant Maker to spend the funds in accordance with their terms and conditions.  There will be a form of compliance and reporting required which is often referred to as the Grant Acquittal.

‘Remember, Grants are not money, they are financial assistance to produce something i.e. a shed or equipment. it’s the Grantmaker’s money in your pocket, not your money in theirs.’

Before applying for a grant please read the guidance set out in the Grants Toolkit and Templates Section of this site for details on the application process for Scout Groups under the auspice of The Scout Association of Australia, Queensland Branch Inc.

What is a Donation?

Donations of money are a gift given by an Entity, typically for charitable purposes and to benefit a specific cause.  Donations are given without the need for return consideration and therefore there are no compliance requirements attached.

What is Sponsorship?

Sponsorship is cash and/or in-kind support for an event, activity, person, or organisation and can be delivered through the provision of products or services. In return, the Sponsor may wish to exploit any commercial potential associated with their relationship with the Sponsoree.

Groups, Districts and Regions are encouraged to obtain sponsorships at a local level.  Sponsorship should be in line with the Aim and Principles of the Movement, and consideration should be given to the type of sponsorship sought.

What is Fundraising?

Fundraising is the process of gathering contributions of money or other resources to support the operating costs of not-for-profit organisations.
