Joey Scouts Celebrate 25 Years

Joey Scouts from all over the Darling Downs Region converged in Toowoomba for a celebration 25 years in the making.

joey scouts celebrate 25 years2015 sees the anniversary of the youngest section of Scouting – Joey Scouts.

2nd Toowoomba Scout Group hosted the event which saw the Joey Scouts participating in the Annual Joey Scout Olympics as well as a Joey Scout Jaunt including cooking, craft and outdoor activities.

Mr John Pugh (Taz) 2nd Toowoomba Joey Scout Leader commented that “The day was design for fun by the Darling Downs Joey Scout Leaders. We had Joeys come in from as far west as Chinchilla and far south as Warwick. The Joey Scouts get to see that there is more to Scouting than there piece of the world.”

The highlight of the afternoon was the 25 Anniversary cake.

 

Capricorn Region Camp Cubs – Kub Kars Rally 2015

Cub Scouts from Capricorn Region gathered at Awonga Dam, Gladstone on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June 2015 for the annual Cub Scout Region camp.

The Capricorn Region was represented with 84 Cub Scouts and 52 Leaders and parents coming together for a fun filled weekend of fun filled activities, triumphs and Kub Kar racing, whilst meeting other Cub Scouts from the Region sharing skills and tales.

The camp was guided by Transport theme: Cars, Buses, Helicopters, Trains, Motorbikes, Aeroplanes and Boats. Cub Scouts were mixed between Packs and travelled together challenging themselves at Crate Stacking, Making Gadgets, Low Ropes Course, Geocatching, Skit preparation for Camp fire, Creating their own woggles and decorating their Group scarves. The main event was racing their own wooden Kub Kar that they created and personally designed, within the race guidelines.

The Cub Scouts had a fantastic fun filled, extremely eventful weekend and a continuous light rain didn’t dampen their spirits. The main event was on Sunday, racing of the top 24 Kub Kars to determine the Overall winner and also the anticipation of who had most votes for Cubs Choice of Kub Kar design.

Congratulations to all the Cub Scouts who attended, Capricorn Region Kub Kar Rally Camp was a huge success of Fun, Challenges and adventure. WOLF, WOLF, WOLF.

Grey Wolf Award to Regan Edwards

Central and coastal region newsLeadership, enthusiasm to learn new skills, coupled with willingness to teach, guide and encourage others, are skills that Regan Edwards, a Cub Scout from Mackay City Central Group has displayed during the time he has been in Cub Scouts.

Regan has a wonderful talent in the art of paper folding, which he likes to share with others when possible. To earn the Grey Wolf Award, he made a diorama of the Council Rock from the Jungle Book as a resource for the Cub Scout Pack. He also participated in the Cub Scout Leadership Course, Pack Council as a Sixer, went for a pack ramble starting at the Mackay City Central Scout Den, through the Botanical Gardens to the Islander Hut and back. Some of the Achievement badges that he earned were the Masks & Sculpture, Swimmer, Flight and First Aider, also the Their Service, Our Heritage, Special Interest Badge.
