“On behalf of the Senior Youth Marshals, we would like to extend our belated thanks to you and the members of Scouts Queensland who provided service at this year’s Brisbane ANZAC Day Parade.
This year 156 of your members (youth and adult) participated in the parade.
As you are aware, adult members of youth organisations, serving in Youth Marshal roles, coordinate the activities of youth organisation members and ensure that the event is child safe and child friendly. The Youth Marshal team this year consisted of 19 members drawn from across the participating youth organisations. We extend our particular thanks to the 15 Scouts Queensland members who undertook these critical roles and particularly acknowledge the ongoing dedication of Brisbane Parade Scout Fellowship members in undertaking and developing these roles year upon year.
In addition to the contribution made by Youth Marshals across the length and duration of the parade, youth organisation members delivered 210 individual acts of service directly to parade participants, including carrying paddles and banners for returned services organisations. Members of your organisation delivered 123 of these acts of service.
As our veteran community ages, we are seeing year on year increases in demand for service, with demand this year up 20% on last year.
One of the reasons for the delay in writing to you this year has been that we have been receiving incredibly positive feedback from those who we served in this year’s parade which I wanted share with you. Here are a few of the responses we received:
“…outstanding assistance”
“…the guys carried the banner with honour and respect.”
“…the youth assigned to us were extremely helpful and cooperative and hopefully they enjoyed the experience as much as we did.”
“…excellent job. Couldn’t have done better.”
“As always youths are keen on time and happy to support.”
“These young people were cheerful and most obliging as they carried out this task. They were a real credit to their organisations.”
“Thank you so much and we really appreciated the young people who helped out”
The contribution of your members is a testament to the importance you place on community service and the value of honouring our history.
This is a fabulous achievement and a clear demonstration of your commitment to making a positive impact in your community.
So, from those we serve, and from us, we would like to offer our heartfelt thanks and congratulations for the active role you take in preserving the memory of those who have fought for our country’s freedom.
We look forward to continuing to work with Scouts Queensland to uphold the ANZAC spirit through an ongoing dedication to service.”
