Millmerran Shooters Camp
20 Venturer Scouts, eight Leaders and two Rovers from Northern Moreton Bay Region attended a camp with The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) historical society at Millmerran Captain’s Mountain shooters complex.
The weekend was extremely cold with everyone rugging up. Friday night we were given the start of our safety briefing with this continuing on the Saturday morning before heading out to the range to fire the firearms.
10 SSAA personnel were in attendance to allow Venturer Scouts to understand and shoot a range of firearms, from range pistols to 22s as well all the way up to a 45110 (buffalo rifle). Sunday morning was spent learning how to clean the firearms that had been used.
Venturer Scouts displayed wonderful respect and attitude towards both the SSAA personal and the firearms. The weekend was a great success and the SSAA are wishing to run the activity again. Each Venturer Scout and Leader/Rover returned with a new found understanding and respect for not only the sport but firearms in general. A few are now looking at obtaining a junior shooters licence.
