Diversity and Inclusion:

Gender Equality

What is Equality? It’s about ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to make the most of their lives and talents. It is also the belief that no one should have poorer life chances because of the way they were born, where they come from, what they believe, or whether they have a disability.

Gender Equality is when people of all genders have equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities. Everyone is affected by Gender Inequality, women, men, trans and gender diverse people, children, and families. It also impacts on people of all ages and backgrounds.

Gender Equality is a human right, choosing to remember that all humans are born equal no matter their gender, then it’s our duty to make sure that women and men have equal opportunities and rights in every part of life.

Gender Equality means fairness of treatment for women and men, according to their respective needs. This may include equal treatment or treatment that is different and considered equal in terms stated previously, equal rights, benefits, obligations, and opportunities.

Gender Equality is Scouting, for over 30 years Scouting in Australia has not been gender-biased, but this doesn’t mean we have Gender Equality right, there are more things we can be doing. Ask yourself this question, how does my personal biases impact on my perception of Gender Equality and Gender Bias?
