What We’ve Been Up To

Joey Scouts Raise Money For Charity

Edge Hill Joey Scouts raised $82 to shave the amazing Joey Leader ‘Platypus’ aka Jasmine Barnes for the Worlds greatest shave.

Before the shave they talked about why she was doing it & where her plaits were going.

Cub Leadership Camp

Kennedy Region Cubs joined together with their Leaders to participate in the Cub Leadership Course on March 12/13, 2022. Cubs from Loam Island, Kirwan, Wulguru and Belgian Gardens headed out to Tarmaroo Campsite at Bluewater for a chance to learn more about leadership roles and the qualities and skills that make a good leader.  Activities included a range of games that promoted listening, teamwork and communication.  A water activity challenged the Cubs problem solving skills. How many ways can you use paper, straws and balloons to transport water from one bucket to another?  You would be surprised.  Practical skills included hoisting and folding flags, ironing and rolling scarfs as well as how to complete an investiture.  Sessions also included the history of Scouting, Promise and Law, Unit Council, where to place badges on the uniform as well as being a good leader. Opportunities were also provided to challenge the Cubs to combine all their skills through completing personal shelters, cooking, building camp fires as well as providing first aid in an outdoor scenario. The Cubs were exhausted by the end of the camp.  They reviewed their learnings and headed off home ready to put their newly found knowledge to practice in their Cub Packs.

It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm these Cubs had for Scouting. The experience was enjoyable and rewarding for both Leaders and Cubs.
