From the Chief Commissioner

Hi everyone, hope you are having a great month!

Well, what a month we have seen – Holidays, Easter, and all things Coronation!

I trust you all took the time to watch the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla over the last weekend. Scouts Australia was formed under Royal Charter so our links to the Monarchy are extremely important and relevant today.

We did post on social media last week that Lachlan Wright a Rover Scout from Mt Cotton Rover Crew was selected to represent Scouts Australia at this event. There was also a representative selected from NSW. What an experience for those Rover Scouts.

I have included a link to an email I received from the Youth Coordinators for the Anzac Day Parade in Brisbane thanking Scouts Queensland for the service provided by our Youth Members and Adults to the Parade. A wonderful acknowledgement for Scouting. Read it Here.

LEAP 23

A patrol – based camp for Scouts  / Venturer Scouts run simultaneously in Brisbane and Townsville in June / July 2023, that focuses activities around, Leadership, Empowerment, Adventure, and Patrols. Find out more: Here

We have this rather significant event in January 2025 in Maryborough called AJ2025  the 26th Australian Jamboree. There is a huge amount of planning underway right now to make this a truly exciting experience for young people. My question to you – has your young person decided to go?

Chat with your Leaders, visit the AJ2025 Website

This will be the experience of a lifetime for your young person. Have they started fund raising? The Jamboree is only 19 months away – Scary hey!

A couple of questions this month about uniform and badge placements – I refer you to the Adult Uniform Standard and the Youth Uniform Standard which provide guidance on where to place badges. Links are below.

This month we are starting to see Groups conduct their Annual Report Presentations. Can I encourage you to make the time to attend your Groups Presentation, to hear about the activities your young people have been participating in over the year and also the successes for the Group.

Some of the topics covered with leaders over the last month include:

  • Child Safe Policies being approved within our new Document Hierarchy
  • Introduced online Incident reporting capability
  • Recognised Anzac Day 2023
  • Introduced our 60 mins of… training package for use at Regional and District Training meetings.

Finalised our Insurance policies for the coming year in what has been a very challenging market.

Have a great month and good Scouting!
