What We’ve Been Up To

Sir Leslie Wilson District Canoe Expedition – Upper Noosa River 23-25 February 2024

Scouts from Sir Leslie Wilson District complete their basic training. 19 Scouts and 6 leaders launched from Harry’s Hut campsite and paddled down through the Noosa River narrows to Fig Tree Point Campsite on the upper reaches of Lake Cootharaba. Paddling skills were honed in hot and wet conditions, and Scouts had the opportunity to try paddling kayaks, fishing or just floating around. This group of scouts now have all the key skills to complete Stage 5 paddling, and a top time was had by all.

Stradbroke Island Scuba Camp

What an incredible weekend we had at our inaugural Scuba camp on Stradbroke Island! The response was overwhelming, with an enthusiastic bunch of Venturer Scouts and Leaders from Groups across South East Queensland joining in for an unforgettable experience in the warm, crystal-clear waters off North Stradbroke Island.

Despite being quickly oversubscribed, those fortunate enough to attend were treated to an action-packed weekend filled with exciting dives and thrilling encounters. With up to six boat dives available and the option of a surfing lesson, there was never a dull moment. And to top it off, we all camped together just steps away from the dive centre, fostering a sense of fellowship and shared excitement.

The post-dive atmosphere was electric, with participants sharing stories of their underwater encounters. From majestic eagle rays to curious shovel nose sharks, graceful leopard sharks to elusive octopus, turtles, schooling trevally and more; the marine life was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The thrill of launching the boats from the beach and navigating through the surf only added to the sense of adventure.

For those eager to dive deeper into future opportunities and courses, we invite you to join the Scouts QLD Scuba Divers Facebook page.

Stay informed, connect with fellow divers, and be the first to know about upcoming dive adventures. With more Scuba camps already in the works for later this year and beyond, there’s never been a better time to dive in and explore the wonders beneath the waves. Thank you to everyone who made our inaugural Scuba camp a resounding success. We can’t wait to see where our next underwater adventure takes us!

Yeppoon Scouts meet the Royal Flying Doctors

Members of the Yeppoon Scout Group got hands-on experience of the Royal Doctor Service in the Queensland aeromedical simulator. The simultor is a ful replica of the King Air B200 designed to educate school groups and community organisations.
The organisers hope that the experience will have sparked interest in youth members who maybe one day will become a pilot, doctor or nurse!

Rochedale Venturer Scouts – Straddie Trip

Rochedale Venturer Scouts celebrated Founder’s Day by going on a camp to North Stradbroke Island. Ferry ride to Straddie, bus to Cylinder Beach campground – it is just so easy. Swimming, fishing, sand dune activities made for an excellent weekend. A couple of blue bottle stings just to add to the memories. Straddie is also an awesome location to invest new VenturerScouts into the Unit. Welcome Libby and Nick.
Also a special mention to the Bayside Sea Scouts – Scout Unit,  who also were camping at Straddie. It must just be the place to be.

Brownsea Joey Scout Fun Day – February 2024

This is ultimately the highlight of the year for our Joey Scouts and an adventure not to be missed. I would advise parents to book early for the next one so you are not disappointed because this day books out pretty fast.

Our Joey Scouts got to take a trip in a speed boat, go rafting, build a craft sail boat, do some metal detecting, nature hike to rock pools where we found some crabs and a stingray, swimming, canoeing and walking the plank of a pirate ship!!!  So much fun and so much badge work achieved in one day.

Note because these days are so popular and we don’t want any Joey Scouts to miss out, we will open up the bookings 3 months prior and ask that parent’s book directly.
