What We’ve Been Up To

Pittsworth Scout Group Family Day

Pittsworth Scout Group enjoyed an amazing day at our recent Family Water Activities Day at Connolly Dam, just south of Warwick. The weather was perfect, the scenery was stunning and the youth members were fantastic!

Under the guidance of Darling Downs Region Water Activities Leader, Gecko, and Warwick Scout Leader, Goodoo, the youth members developed their paddling knowledge and skills under the Youth Program’s Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS). From first-timers to more experienced paddlers, each youth member (and adult) ticked plenty of ‘I statements’ as they canoed around the dam. They also gave the stand-up paddle boards a good workout, especially in the hotly contested relay races!  Both Gecko and Goodoo were very impressed with the skill progression they witnessed throughout the day. BRAVO to our youth members on their efforts!

A big thank you to our families who came along, especially those who assisted throughout the day and who got out on the water. Many thanks to our leaders, including Rama, Rhino, Seagull, Brumby and Beauaraba District Leader Carol, and, of course, Gecko and Goodoo for their leadership and provision of watercraft.

I highly recommend Connolly Dam for your next outing on the water!

Tyakunda District Leader Training Weekend

On the 20-22 January, Tyakunda District ran a Leader only training weekend at Karingal. The weekend’s aim was to show leaders some activities that can be run within Scouts QLD and allow them to socialise with the other leaders and participate in the activities.

On Saturday we did Stand Up Paddle boarding run by Chris Price, Canoeing run by James Hanlon, Zipline run by Brent Greenfiled and Pioneering run by Bryan Brown and Aaron Watkins. We then prepared a Camp Oven dinner for everyone that consisted of Roast Beef and Roast Pork as well as veggies in a total of 9 camp ovens.

On the Sunday we had Hsien-Jin do a presentation on Scouting History as well as Orienteering run by Kerry Parry.

The weekend was an amazing experience and all leaders had a great time. We had a total of 34 leaders attend over the weekend which was a great turnout.
