The 100th year anniversary of landing at Gallipoli has inspired a new tradition with Kenmore Scout Group – having the entire group (Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Leaders) camp overnight at the Den, and participate in a Dawn Service.
Over 70 people ate dinner around the camp fire at the Bielby Road Scout Den on a relatively cool evening on 24th. Three youth members received top awards in their sections: The Promise Challenge (Joey Scout – Darcy Siepen); the Grey Wolf (Cub Scout – Elliott Hewitt) and the Australian Scout Medallion (Scout – Sebastian More-O’Farrell).
“These awards demonstrate that the Youth Members have achieved very high standards of achievement in their Scouting”, Kenmore Group Leader, Annie Ross said.
The Dawn Service (run by the Venturer Scout Unit Chairman – Mawgan Petersen) was followed with a hearty breakfast, and then a Group walk down Bielby Road to OLR, to participate in the Anzac March.
“This whole of Group activity, with Youth Members, Group Leaders and District Leaders attending the campfire and awards ceremony, sleepover and Dawn Service will be held again next year, in respect to the Anzac tradition.” Annie said.
