In its 22nd year, the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament has a long history of providing Queenslanders aged 15-25 with unrivalled opportunities for personal development, civic engagement and employment pathways. Participants are provided with year-long mentoring and support by previous participants to engage with their local communities to represent the issues that matter to themselves and local residents, while maintaining strong links to the Executive and Parliamentary dimensions of Government. Many past Youth Members have gone on to pursue interesting and varied careers, including in politics.

On Monday 30th January 2017, applications opened for the 2017 program. The closing date for nominations is Monday 27th February. A young person will be selected to represent each of the 89 state electorates across Queensland for the duration of the 2017. Youth Member selections are based on a number of factors including regional and remote representation, diversity, enthusiasm and personal development potential.

To assist us in finding Youth Members who embody the talent and diversity of Queensland’s young people, I would greatly appreciate you promoting our program to young people with whom you engage and encouraging them to apply. Young people from all backgrounds and/or academic disciplines are encouraged to apply.
