For Cub Scouts Day Out, the Grovely-Mitchelton Cub Scouts accompanied friends from various units within the Sir Leslie Wilson District in Brisbane’s northwest to attend their District Cub Scout camp at Karingal.
The Cub Scouts from the district were organized into two groups. On Saturday, one group enjoyed visiting the lovely Epripah Environmental Centre for an environmental education day working on WOSM badges and a SIA. , while the other group engaged in enjoyable paddling on the Karingal Dam and a variety of bushcraft activities at the camp. The patrols swapped activities on Sunday to ensure everyone had the same experience.
Our amazing team of adults observed the Cub Scouts enjoying their time outdoors, while also learning how to protect our precious waterways.

Cub Scouts from Beaver Masters District had a wonderful morning for Cub Day Out. Across the morning, Cub Scouts rotated around 4 activities focused on our local waterways. They got to visit the Coastal Discovery Van provided by our local council, which included experimenting with the wave tank to see the effects of plants and rock walls in our oceans. From here they went on a discovery walk in the local area where they could see the erosion caused by Cyclone Alfred, while they were spotting the storm water system in our local neighbourhood. Another activity was run by Koala, where cubs learned how to filter water and discussed how scouts treat water when on long hikes. The final base was led by 2 youth from our Scout section (completing an SIA badge). One activity was an experiment about erosion. The other activity was to create a terrarium and learn about water within an ecosystem.
In total, we had 56 Cub Scouts, 11 Leaders and 3 parent helpers attend the day. A few photos are below.

The Mackay City Central Cub Scouts participated in this year’s Cub Scout Day Out by earning their Stage 1 in Paddling at Rowallan Park under the guidance of an AA Leader, Rikki. We were joined by some Scouts, their leader, Baru, and our Group Leader, Skip. Most of the youth wished that the session was longer but they all said that they had fun.
