What We’ve Been Up To
Moreton Bay Pride Festival
Scouts Queensland was represented at Moreton Bay PrideFest by 12 adult and youth members and headed by our Branch Commissioner Diversity and Inclusion, Georgia Sands. A successful day with many attendees visiting our stall, a great opportunity to engage with the community.
Freshwater Scout Unit Patrol Camp
The Freshwater Scout Unit from Coral Coast District (FNQ) held an awesome patrol camp on 9 – 11 June. The 11 scouts and 4 leaders spent the weekend at Emerald Creek, 1 hour west of Cairns.
The camp started with setup, dinner then an evening chat around the fire. The next morning, we had a 6am wakeup call and, after breakfast, all headed off for an 11km bushwalk learning about plants, animals, geology, safety and navigation.
In the afternoon the Scouts did activities to progress their badge work in small groups of 2-4 scouts. One group set up a night navigation exercise which was run after dinner all the Scouts had a great time learning to use new compasses better. At the same time all the Scouts and Leaders experienced the bush on a beautiful, cloudless, star filled evening.
Another group of scouts performed a hilarious skit about First Aid and DRSABCD, which they had learned that day. The next morning the Scouts did more activities progressing badge work, then packed up camp and headed for a swim in the ice cold (25 degrees) creek before we unfortunately, had to go home.
Everyone agreed we’ll have to do this again soon!

Joy of the Child
See joy in the innocent actions of the child.
For, to children, their actions are the most perfect they can do.
They do not seek to judge what is right,
or what is wrong,
or noble or otherwise
They seek only to judge their worth by the joy they inspire.
