Scouting on the Green
On Wednesday 14 February 2024, Scouts Queensland were invited to host Scouting on the Green on Speakers Green at Parliament House. This, now annual event, provides youth members and adults in Scouting with the opportunity to engage with our State Members of Parliament to demonstrate all the Adventurous, Fun, Challenging and Inclusive activities we experience through the scouting program.
This year 30 youth members and supporting leaders demonstrated their first aid skills treating snakebites and creating slings, methods of water filtration, solar cooking delicious smores, STEM genetic mutation by simulating the formation of DNA and pioneering catapults. The catapults certainly brought out the competitive nature in our guests with cheers ringing out across the Green as they hit the target.
Members of scouting take this opportunity to speak to politicians about the Scouts Queensland Strategic Plan and discuss how scouting aligns with the Governments Activate Queensland Strategy.
40 members of the Queensland Parliament joined us on Speakers Green and we were excited to receive confirmation of funding from the Queensland Government to support the delivery of AJ2025.
We thank the Queensland Government for their support which will allow Scouts Queensland to deliver a great Jamboree experience for all attending.
Check out the Scouts Queensland social media for more photos of the day and see whether your State MP joined us and shared their experiences.
