JOEY SCOUT HOLLOW

Js1It was as an inspiration of then Branch Commissioner For Joey Scouts, Wilma Everingham; she realised there was a need for a special area for Joey Scouts and Leaders at BP Park, and in 1998 the planning for Joey Scout Hollow commenced. Opening on 1 August 1998 this special area was located above the Providore and has been used on many occasions for Campfires, Scouts Own or for time to one’s self.

Over past years the area has deteriorated through frequent use and vandal attacks, to the point where the area has now become unsafe for use. With the support of Bunnings Hardware, and in particular branches from the northern area in Brisbane, material, labour and time was provided to relocate Joey Scout Hollow to just beside the swimming pool.

As one would expect there was a lot of organising and planning for this activity to reach it implementation, and on Wednesday 21st October 2015 a team of willing workers lead by Craig Buckley, Narelle Short and Jenny Fourez came to BP Park to complete the work. On a hot and sunny day work commenced at 5.30 am and slowly Joey Scout Hollow reformed in its new location.

Without the assistance of Brad from B&L Earthworks (0414 757198), the digging of holes for footings for seating and fence posts would have been a lot harder and taken a lot longer. I would to thank everyone involved, without your support this activity would not have proceeded.

There is still a bit of work to complete so watch this space as Joey Scout Hollow continues to evolve. When you are next at BP Park don’t forget to take the time to come and see, use, and experience the atmosphere of Joey Scout Hollow.

LONG AND SHORT TERM PLANNING

It’s that time of year again and If you have not already thought of this, you should be thinking about developing your long and short term plans in preparation for 2016. Your planning will include activities such as outings, special days/periods (Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, Easter, Christmas, etc), mob holidays/sleepovers, special guest attendances, etc. It is a valuable activity from which you, your leaders, and youth members will benefit. If you are a lone leader, organise with leaders from neighbouring groups to have a ‘brain storming day’ to develop your individual long and short term plans – it will be a lot of fun.
