SSS all done for another year

After beginning the year with the event of a lifetime (AJ2016) Scouts quickly moved on to the next closest thing, SSS. SSS is a four day camp held at BP Park that running from Friday to Monday in the middle of the winter school holidays. On the Friday morning 97 Scout Patrols and Leaders descended on the park to begin setting up their campsites for the next four days. For this camp Scouts camp in their Patrols with the Leaders in a separate camping area completely. It provides a great opportunity for a Patrol to experience independence and self-reliance in a supportive environment.

Throughout the weekend the Scouts enjoy a wide range of activities. Some of them count towards the SSS Shield while others are purely for the enjoyment and educational opportunities they provide. To round out the experience all of the Scouts and some Leaders attend the Gang Show to appreciate the theatrical talents of Scouts and Guides alike.

On Monday we were treated to a visit by the Qld Governor and Chief Scout, His Excellency The Honourable Paul de Jersey AC. He took the time to take a tour of some of the activities underway, campsites and administrative areas. The Governor took every opportunity to stop and talk with Scouts and Leaders throughout the tour. The photo below shows the Governor checking out the winning gateway.

The Governor wasn’t our only visitor. On Saturday we also hosted around 50 Cub Scouts for CCC. These Cub Scouts got to participate in some of the activities, visit with Patrols from their home Troops and generally get a taste of what the Scout section has to offer them. One Pack was enjoying themselves so much that they ended up staying for the whole day.

SSS takes a lot of support to keep this many Scouts busy and out of mischief so a big thank you goes out to the Leaders, Venturers, Rovers and activity teams for their assistance.
