Did you know that it will soon be 100 years since the very first Wood-Badge Course commenced?
The first Wood Badge course for 25 scouters was run at Gilwell Park, London, UK from the 8th -19th September 1919. In Queensland, the first Wood Badge course was run in 1924 at Ormiston, Redland.
Multiple Gilwell Reunions to commemorate the Centenary of Wood-Badge, will be held throughout the world, and also throughout Australia and Queensland sometime around the 7th September 2019. There may be some Regions whose Gilwell Reunion may vary by a day or two. Look out for announcements. If you have questions with regards to these events and ideas for promoting the Wood Badge Centenary, please contact: wbcentenary@scoutsqld.com.au
To get the events rolling within Queensland, “Que” Koala, a Training Team (Queensland Branch) mascot, has gone on a “walkabout” throughout Queensland, to meet as many Adult Leaders as possible. Que carries a backpack containing a message, log book, and a Queensland scarf. Adult leaders who Que meets are being asked to write an entry into the log book, receive a souvenir card, and take a photo with Que.
Que, the log book and photos will eventually form a historical record of the adult leaders within Queensland, and be kept for posterity at a Branch Scout Heritage Centre.
This Blog Site contains wood badge centenary ideas, historical facts, announcements and the photographs of Que and the people she met on her travels.
